Thanks for being here!
I’m Pat Simmons (PerSimmons in some circles). I’m a photographer, video maker, and occasional writer.
In 2015, prior to an extended backpacking trip, I picked up a Canon Rebel T5 at Costco for a few hundred bucks.
It would accompany me around the globe, capturing photos everywhere from Sweden to Sri Lanka.
When I eventually ran out of money, I moved to New York City and replaced my camera with an Excel spreadsheet, opting for a more stable corporate life.
Still, that restless urge to roam the world with a camera never faded.
Like Walter Mitty, I’d sit at my cubicle, daydreaming of far-flung places and distant lands.
A few years later, desperate for a creative outlet, I picked the camera up again.
I was instantly hooked. And living in the street photography mecca that is New York City, certainly didn’t hurt.
Each neighborhood felt like another country to explore, and my camera led me to moments shared with people from all walks of life.
Photography made me more observant, empathetic, and appreciative of the small things (I’ve shared some of these experiences on my YouTube channel).
But soon, the desire to see beyond the city became impossible to ignore. In 2023, I packed everything I owned into a storage unit and booked a one-way ticket to South America.
This blog is the home of those journeys—photographic stories from the road—and, more importantly, the photography lessons I wish I’d had before venturing into the unknown with that Canon Rebel T.
